Hi everyone!! So although this is a bit late because I know International Women’s Day is March 8th , I did just receive the photos which are so great I loved them and you will see why if you keep reading!. So this March 8th I had the absolute pleasure of attending an event called ”First Exhibition of Iranian Women’s Art” the event was hosted by CIWA (Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association) and Yara the main host in charge of organizing this wonderful event. The event consisted of an eclectic assortment of art, fashion, and Persian culture. For those of you who do not know Persian is just another word for Iranian, they are those born in Iran ,officially called the Islamic Republic of Iran since 1980.  Iran is actually located in Western Asia surrounded by countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey etc. As seen below:

The event was completely full of proud Persians supporting each other’s arts and talking nonstop Farsi ,their official language.  It was so wonderful to see so many Persians in one place and listen to them talk about their views and ideas. But although the event was mainly filled with Iranians there were still other attendees from different cultures who stopped by to show their support and look at all the wonderful items on sale as well as the big assortment of Persian Art. I myself loved all of them and all were completely stunning but if I had to choose a favorite it would be the Silver Sofreh Aghd:

                                        (Silver Sofreh Aghd behind me)

Silver Sofreh Aghd is a traditional Persian wedding ceremony spread. All of the items on the spread represent an element of life together for the newly married couple. They are very big and common at Persian weddings. The word “sofreh” means “spread” and “aghd” means ”ceremony” thus Sofreh Aghd. Although you can’t really appreciate it well in the picture let me tell you it is absolutely breathtaking and stunning , and if you would like one of your own for your wedding or a friends wedding click on the hyperlink on the right —-> Silver Sofreh Aghd and you can contact the sole owner of this Silver Sofreh Aghd Mrs. Mitra Faramarzi.

Throughout the event there was a wide variety of arts, ranging from actual cultural photographs , to portraits and even calligraphy.  There was something for everyone and I highly encourage you to keep an eye out on CIWA event page so you have the opportunity to drop by and visit and see one of their events. Although I did not have a chance to take a photograph with Yara the host , I did have the wonderful pleasure of taking a picture with Terry her daughter who was such an amazing person to speak with and have a lovely chat with. She has the most outgoing and upbeat attitude anybody can have , it was so great to meet her and I had so much fun with her.

(Left Photo: At the event with Terry on my left and her photograph station in the background, Right Photo: At one of the arts station in the far left of the photo is the calligraphy I had mentioned above)

Here below is also one more photo from the event, It’s my reflection in the mirror of the Silver Sofreh Aghd  I find it to be such a nice cool picture, hats off to the photographer for such a unique idea.  I absolutely loved this photo it is amazing so unique and cool.
