I hope everyone is excited for the weekend and I just want to take a moment to say how proud I am to be part of this wonderful city that I live in . I could have not asked for a better place to call my home specially on this day, a year after the flood that devastated so many parts in Alberta even our beautiful city of Calgary. When our city went through the flood last year I remember thinking how would we ever get out of this mess, those were the exact words that went through my head every time I logged on my computer to check updates on the flood. I remember calling friends of mine and checking up on them and anybody that I knew that was near the affected areas, I even remember the images of the downtown flooded and kept thinking to myself how was this possible , how is this happening in Calgary right now and I could just not believe it.

It didn’t even seem real to me at that time that this was all happening around me. I literally felt like I was in a movie that had me constantly anxious and seemed like it had no end and the credits could not come up soon enough, that’s the best way to describe it. I even remember talking to my parents and preparing everything for an emergency kit in case the police came by to tell us we needed to evacuate.
But now a year later I am so happy to be able to say WE MADE IT CALGARIANS!. We made it through the flood together and worked as a team to achieve what seemed to be such a distant goal but we did it. I am so proud of all the Calgarians, our amazing mayor and the volunteers and everyone that gave a hand to one another during such harsh times and I could not be more proud to represent this wonderful city at Nationals this July. To all the Calgarians I hope tomorrow you go out and celebrate Neighbours Day in commemoration of the Calgary Flood!. Looking forward to seeings lots of BBQ hosted by neighbours in my community tomorrow! so Happy Early Neighbours Day everyone and have a safe weekend!
